Updates to pih

A few minor updates to programming is hard. I’ve had these on the hard drive for a while, and with my machine going in for repair I’ve deployed the changes prior to being without a computer.

  1. Tag split/restore on comma is fixed for some update situations
  2. Caching updated for rss feeds
  3. CSS fixed for readability on Safari
  4. Minor speed/performance enhancements
  5. Invalid url handling resolved
  6. Display of source url in code list and detail view

Database backups are enroute

After jumping on the argon irc it seems they are in process of migrating database backups to a new server.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed, but we might just be looking at a full restoration point back to where we were.

programming is hard, especially when your host goes down

Planet Argon’s neon server went down again; this time in an even larger fireball. Apparently it wasn’t in the backup cycle and the restoration process currently involves seeking a shaman and making offerings. After speaking with the staff in irc they are going to investigate restoration services.

As exciting as this mess of a situation is, Programming is Hard v2 was just shy of release so we are going to take this massively crappy event as a sign to finish it while we wait for the hopeful restoration of the data. And before someone gets all crazy I know we should have had a more robust plan in place to pull the data off of the vps, but the site recently went from 40-> ~800 users in the last two weeks and we have been working hard to put out V2 in that timeframe.

I guess this must be what they call edge hosting?

[pih] status

I’ve almost finished round two of the updates for Programming is Hard.  This post is about the current (as in right now) down time.  I’m checking with my hosting provider and the site will be back up as soon as possible.
